Introduction

7 Testosterone Blocking Food Items Men Should Strictly Avoid

Foods that can Decrease Testosterone Levels in a Man. So, we are talking about the primary male hormone in men, testosterone. Everyone on the internet talks about how important testosterone and how it can be increased. But in this article, we will be sharing foods to avoid as these can decrease testosterone in your body. So, while preparing a diet plan and grocery shopping, make sure you do not add the following foods into it.

Without wasting another second, let’s move to the foods section.

Foods a Man should Strictly Avoid

No.#1: Soy Products

Soy Products Featured

Soy and soy products are dangerous for your male hormonal boost. Soy foods like tofu (a form of paneer), edamame, soy milk, soybean chunks are added in this list. It is true that you can seek a substantial amount of protein from soybean and soy products, but beware of its properties.

In a study, it has been witnessed that there is an unfavorable relationship between soy products and testosterone levels. It was also observed that men who stopped eating soy witnessed normal testosterone levels.

So, we can imply that soy products can alter the estrogen levels in your body, dropping down the T levels. However, we would appreciate if more research is done, and more reports are available with us.

No.#2: Mint

Mints and Mints Leaves

Mint has gained immense popularity due to its anti-inflammatory properties and how it can soothe your stomach pain. But one research report shows us that it can cause a sudden drop in your testosterone levels. Mint includes peppermint and spearmint, and both have been proved to have affected testosterone levels badly.

One study has been done on women who experienced a drop in testosterone levels after drinking spearmint tea for 30 days. Other studies have shown that mint causes a decline in testosterone levels, but this research has been done on male rats and not humans. We would appreciate it if more research is conducted on male humans to understand the link.

But it is better to be careful after observing these research reports. So, we would recommend you to avoid usage of mint and decrease its quantity if you are consuming more mint tea or leaves.

No.#3: Vegetable Oil

Which oil do you use for cooking? We are asking this because it can influence your hormonal levels of the body. Vegetable oils like canola, soy, corn can cause a decline in testosterone as these oils are packed with polyunsaturated fatty acids. This is why you should always confirm the type of oil before adding it in your shopping cart.

People tend to overlook which oil they are using and believe that only peanut oil is the culprit. But when it comes to a man’s testosterone levels, all of the vegetable oils can victimize you with unbalanced hormonal levels. Even though polyunsaturated fatty acids are remarked as healthy fats, they are not good for testosterone levels of a man.

Two studies show that polyunsaturated fats are linked with lower testosterone levels in men and even after exercise, it can lower the impact. Though we would appreciate research linked with vegetable oil, we cannot ignore the current reports that we have.

No.#4: Processed Foods

Junk Processed Foods Featured

Another culprit of lower testosterone level is the processed food section. We have a variety of tempting processed foods in the market right from potato chips to French Fries. You have got plenty of tasty foods and a low amount of willpower to stay away from them.

Processed foods are loaded with sugar, sodium and calories and offer nothing to your body but a lot to your tongue and hunger cravings. If you are diligent enough in your diet, then you have to control these temptations and turn to wholesome foods instead as compared to the processed counterparts, as it can hamper your testosterone levels badly.

Several studies have shown that trans fat contained in these processed foods have a lot to do with your testosterone levels. Of course, it has a negative impact on your male hormones. Also, processed foods impact testicular function and sperm count negatively. Yes, animal studies also show the same inferences.

If you want higher testosterone levels, maintain body weight and enjoy a healthy life, and please stay far from processed foods.

No.#5: Flaxseed

This food sounds contradictory to what all dieticians and nutritionists are saying. Flaxseed is awesome, but for men, it can be destructive to their testosterone levels. Flaxseed contains a plant compound known as lignans which are attached to your free testosterone and gets forcefully removed from the body.

Though more men-related studied are needed to prove this connection between flaxseed and testosterone levels, we cannot ignore this fact.

So, whenever you have loaded your cereal or oatmeal with flaxseed, make sure you are not doing it excessively.

No.#6: Alcohol

Alcohol Featured

We are not talking about a simple glass of wine with dinner occasionally but excessive intake of alcohol.

In one study, 30-40 grams of alcohol on a daily basis can be linked with lower testosterone levels when this is done for three weeks. Acute intoxication lowers testosterone levels in men.

Through advanced research is needed to prove this inter-connection, we would stick to the fact that excessive consumption of alcohol is dangerous to your hormonal levels.

No.#7: Dairy Products

Dairy Products Featured

Dairy intolerance is common these days, but did you know that excessive dairy can tamper your testosterone levels? Yes, it can do so.

Cow’s milk is comprised of chemicals and synthetic hormones which can cause an adverse effect on your T levels. The organic version of milk is appreciated. It is true that milk is beneficial for bones and strength, its recent chemical version can ruin your testosterone. So, please make sure that you curb this myth and drink organic milk.

Conclusion

In conclusion, these foods can be great for some health benefits, but it can impact your testosterone levels as well. So, be careful while creating your diet plan or while adding the above foods to your regime. If you have certain doubts, then feel free to ask your dietician or your family physician. Also, check the scientific study reports for more clarification.
